The Parents Against Children Cell Phones Campaign

The rise in the number of children carrying cell phones in modern times is becoming quite alarming. Data from the Pew Internet and American Life Project indicate that tweens and teens will own a cell phone is practically a given, with around 75 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds toting a mobile device. In 2004, less than half of that age group owned phones. Daily text messaging among these American teens has shot up in the past 18 months, from 38% of teens texting friends daily in February of 2008 to 54% of teens texting daily in September 2009.

Even more alarming, as of 2009, 20 percent of kids between six and 11 years old had a cell phone, according to a Mediamark survey. Moreover, cell phone ownership has increased most dramatically over the past five years -– 80.5 percent -– among ten- to 11-year olds.

After much debate and research, we must ask ourselves as parents, at what age is it safe for a child to carry a cell phone? Are there negative social and physical impacts to the child’s well-being that we are overlooking. We are trying to collect more data from parents on this issue, so what do you think about the subject?

The Most Expensive Luxury Cellphones in the World

The world of cellphone technology moves quickly, and often, our brand-new, expensive gadgets are obsolete shortly after we bring them home. However, this does not stop the wealthy from seeking beautiful, upscale, flashy customizations of their favorite cellphones. The most expensive luxury cellphones in the world, featuring gigantic diamonds, platinum cases, and, in one instance, even the tooth of an ancient dinosaur, are not only spectacular to see, but so costly, you’ll feel your next new phone is a bargain.

The Most Expensive iPhones in the World

Apple iPhone’s sleek design, superior quality and worldwide popularity make it a perfect model on which luxury designers can work their magic. Below are three of the world’s most expensive, jewel-studded iPhones.

The iPhone 4 Diamond Rose

Leading the pack is this gold-plated, diamond-encrusted iPhone 4, the Diamond Rose, which Small World News Service reports was designed by Stuart Hughes for a cool £5 million (more than $8 million U.S.) An Australian businessman commissioned the design, which features a single 7.4 carat flawless pink diamond to cover the home key, along with over 500 additional diamonds lining the back and edges of the casing. The iPhones came packaged in individual leather-lined, solid granite boxes.

The iPhone Princess Plus

From Peter Aloisson, the Princess Plus is covered in 130 brilliant-cut and 138 princess-cut diamonds set in an 18 carat gold casing with rhodium trim. With about 17 carats of flawless diamonds, it is little wonder this creation retails for $176,400.

The iPhone 4 HISTORY Edition

At a relatively inexpensive £40,000 (about $64,000 U.S.), the iPhone 4 HISTORY edition, also designed by Hughes, is perhaps more within reach of ordinary people, yet still outrageously luxurious. Taking its name from the 65 million year old Tyrannosaurus Rex tooth and meteoric rock which comprise its back plate, this phone features a massive 8.5 carat diamond bezel, and is platinum plated and covered in smaller, flawless diamonds.

The Most Expensive Android Phone in the World

As Android’s loyal fan base continues to grow, designers are just stepping in to meet the need for luxury Android phones. The Chairman by Ulysse Nardin was the world’s first Android-powered luxury smartphone, and with models priced from $12,800 to $49,500, it remains the most expensive Android phone in the world.

Ulysse Nardin has used his extensive watch design experience to unique advantage in The Chairman. Beneath the backplate, the internal kinetic motors are clearly visible, and the volume control buttons are designed to look like watch controls. There is even a knob on the side which, when wound, will power the phone. Available in finishes from steel to rose gold, there is a Chairman model to suit any exquisite taste, all offering Android’s distinct operating system and features.
